INVITATION TO BID
Phase IV, Restoration of the Historic Aberdeen B & O Station, Aberdeen Maryland.
Bids are being requested for Phase IV, Restoration of the Historic Aberdeen B&O Train Station, 404 West
Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen, Maryland 21001.
Work includes: demolition, structural reinforcing, new slate roof, gutters and downspouts, new siding,
brick veneer, restoration or replacement of exterior windows/doors and other improvements. All work
must comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
Project is partially funded by the State of Maryland Capital Bonds. Contractor and Subcontractors must
conform to requirements of the Maryland Capital Grants Projects, 10 th edition, including but not limited
to minority business enterprise (W/MBE) participation, EEO Certification, and Disbarment Certification.
Bid Proposals must be received by no later than 12 noon, August 2, 2023 and submitted at the office of
David H. Gleason, 520 A North Eutaw Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. An onsite pre-bid meeting is
scheduled for 11:00 am on July 12, 2023. For complete bid packages contact Peter Dacey at

Contract will be awarded to the lowest cost proposal from a qualified firm as determined by the owner.
Historic preservation General Contractors, Subcontractors and MBE/WBE firms are encouraged to
respond to this solicitation.

Update from the Friends of Aberdeen B&O Train Station!!!
The Friends are on track to begin the restoration project by summer. The Maryland Historical Trust is
currently reviewing the work and we should receive approval in the next few weeks. Once we receive
approval the Friends will be soliciting bids and selecting a general contractor. The work items that will
be accomplished in 2023 include:
1. Install new slate roofing, flashing, ridge caps, finials, gutters, and downspouts.
2. Repair/replace the framing at the eaves.
3. Install new wood shingles, insulation and vapor barrier on entire structure.
4. Install salvaged and new matching brick on the foundation walls and waterproof foundation.
5. Repair/Replace all windows and doors.
6. Install beadboard ceiling where it was removed.
In preparation for this work, the Friends have taken some before pictures so that we can all see the
improvements.

ABERDEEN B&O TRAIN STATION
OPEN HOUSE
December 3, 2022
11 to 2 pm
The Friends of the Aberdeen B&O Train Station, Inc. are announcing an Open House of the historic structure. On December 3, 2022, the Friends will open the building to the public from 11 to 2 pm. The Friends will also have a table in Festival Park following the Aberdeen Christmas Parade.
Thomas the Tank Engine Train set will be running for the children to enjoy.
The event will take place rain or shine. The Train Station is located at 404 West Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen.
The Aberdeen B&O Station was constructed in 1885 and designed by the noted architect Frank H. Furness. The Aberdeen B&O Station is one of only two surviving stations that Mr. Furness designed for the B&O railroad. The station is eligible for the Maryland Register of Historic Properties as well as National Register of Historic Places.
The Friends expect to commence Phase III of the rehabilitation in early 2023. This includes replacing the slate roof, replacing or repairing windows, doors, brick work and shingle siding to bring the appearance back to the building’s construction in 1885.
